May The Fourth Be With You! Star Wars Questionnaire

Happy Star Wars day everybody! For those who don’t know (where have you been?), May the fourth, for obvious word play reasons, has become the internationally recognised day to throw your geek hat on and celebrate the greatest saga ever told. In honour of this holy day in the cinematic calendar, I have decided to trawl the net and compile a Star Wars questionnaire, something that will give you a little insight in to my particular likes and dislikes of the universe. Feel free to spread, share and provide your own answers, and May The Fourth Be With You!

1. All-Time Favourite Character

Screen Shot 2015-05-03 at 20.38.01Of the group of leading Star Wars characters I sometimes feel as though Princess Leia is often overshadowed by the rest, but growing up she was always my favourite. Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that Leia was the only strong female character in a universe full of men, but there was something identifiable and about her for me. She didn’t take crap from anybody, whether they were on her side or against her. Carrie Fisher’s infamous lack of secret keeping abilities has lead the media to believe that Leia will be in more than just the upcoming Episode VII, and I can’t wait to see more of her!

2. Favourite Movie In The Original Trilogy

Screen Shot 2015-05-03 at 20.45.21Without a doubt Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Empire is undoubtedly the stand out film of the entire series. From the developing relationship between Han Solo and Princess Leia to the epic scenes on Hoth to the earth shattering truth bomb that defines the entire saga, Empire provides the audience with absolutely no filler, George Lucas’ true masterpiece and without hesitation my favourite of the entire series.

3. Favourite Movie In The Prequel Trilogy

Screen Shot 2015-05-03 at 20.51.23Oh go on then, if I must. Of the three films that did their very best to completely destroy Star Wars as we know and love it, I would have to say that Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith is literally the only one that I can say I hold any amount of affection for. In terms of the overall series story, it was somewhat satisfying to see the story of Anakin/Vader come full circle, but unfortunately no amount of nostalgia can detract from the eye achingly bad CGI or the fact that Hayden Christensen could not act worth a damn.

4. Favourite Planet

Screen Shot 2015-05-03 at 21.01.41

It may be dusty as hell, but the sheer importance that Tatooine holds within the Star Wars universe has to make it my favourite. Not only the birthplace of Anakin Skywalker but also the planet that his son Luke is sent to grow up, we spend a fair amount of time there throughout the six episodes and I came to grow very fond of the desert landscape. The shot of Luke with the two moons in the distance is one of the defining images of Star Wars, and let us not forget it is the meeting place of Han Solo and Obi-Wan Kenobi!

5. Jedi Or Sith?

Screen Shot 2015-05-03 at 21.07.33In terms of film narrative, I am 100% behind the plight of the Jedi. There is nothing more satisfying that good overcoming evil and that is precisely why moments like Luke blowing up the first Death Star are among the most triumphant feeling of the series to watch. However, on a personal level, I am absolutely sure that I would be seduced by the dark side. Honestly, I think the rules and regulations of the Jedi order would be too much for me to upkeep. Everybody likes to be little bad sometimes, right?

6. Favourite Droid

It’s got to be my main man C-3PO. Though R2-D2 is arguably the more rock and roll choice, I feel Threepio on a deep level. His classic British scepticism and constant talent for being on the wrong place at the wrong time provide some of the most humorous set pieces of the saga, and his dry, sassy wit often acts as the voice of the audience, full of doubt and sarcasm at some of the most integral points!

7. Favourite Piece Of Music

Yes, everybody loves the culturally iconic pieces like the title theme and the Imperial March, but for me it is Binary Sunset, or Luke’s Theme, which is the true masterpiece. A little more pensive and melancholy than some of the other well known pieces, Binary Sunset evokes that emotional feeling of nostalgia inside me and I fall in love with Star Wars all over again every single time. It doesn’t have the aggression or immediate wow factor like some of the others, but it’s definitely my favourite.

8. Favourite Battle

Screen Shot 2015-05-03 at 21.30.50

Even though it was a victory for the Empire, the Battle of Hoth is without a doubt my favourite battle of the series. The snowy, hostile environment of the icy planet provided a stunning background for the Imperial Walkers to overpower Luke and his band of plucky rebels on snowspeeders. The entire set piece is thrilling to watch and in my opinion the most memorable battle of them all.

9. Favourite Quote

Screen Shot 2015-05-03 at 21.39.54

Two simple words that manage to expertly some up the entirety of Han Solo’s character! Han’s cock-sure reply to Leia’s revelation of her love for him tells you in two seconds everything you need to know about the rascal smuggler, he’s cocky, he’s confident, he’s intuitive, and (to me at least) he’s just plain sexy! Many of Han’s one liners rank among my favourites of the entire series, but his simple ‘I know’ puts a smile on my face every single time.

10. What Are You Most Looking Forward To About The Future Of Star Wars?

Screen Shot 2015-05-03 at 21.48.37

Honestly, what I am most looking forward to is the prospect of the franchise being able to get back on track after the disaster that was the prequel trilogy. It would be fair to say that George Lucas lost anybody saying no to him during this time and therefore lost his creative mind, and with a strong story team now taking the reins at Disney rather than a single mind, I am confident that the saga is heading back in the right direction. I am not ashamed to admit that the two teaser trailers for Force Awakens and the even shorter teaser for the first anthology movie Rogue One reduced me to a geeky weeping mess. HURRY UP DECEMBER, HURRY UP!
