Mini Reviews #14

mommieMommie Dearest (1981)
Director: Frank Perry
Starring: Faye Dunaway, Diana Scarwid, Mara Hobel

A camp, cult and crazy classic of epic proportions. Faye Dunaway devours each piece of scenery for sport in this depiction of the well documented and temultuous relationship between Hollywood legend Joan Crawford and her adopted daughter Christina. Spawning an eternity of memorable quotes and one particular scene that will change your opinion on wire hangers forever, Mommie Dearest is undeniably rough around the edges but the sheer outlandish nature of the performances make it a delicious and zany watch. 7/10.

Game-Change-2012-Hindi-Dubbed-Movie-Watch-Online-140x200Game Change (2012)
Director: Jay Roach
Starring: Julianne Moore, Woody Harrelson, Ed Harris

Made for HBO, Game Change tells the story of the 2008 McCain campaign’s fatal mistake of bringing in Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as VP running mate. Julianne Moore gives a chameleon like performance as Palin, and whilst her impersonation is technically outstanding, the true punch of the film is in the insanity of just how close the woman was to being one step away from the Presidency of the United States. No doubt artistically embellished for cinematic effect but nonetheless based in fact, an interesting and at times unbelievable watch. 6/10.

my-summer-of-love-dvd_200My Summer Of Love (2004)
Director: Pawel Pawlikowski
Starring: Emily Blunt, Natalie Press, Paddy Considine

A sinister yet captivating tale about the intensity of intimate female friendships compounded by the backdrop of a zealously religious rural British country village. Emily Blunt shines in what was her first feature film, showing plenty of the promise that we have since seen delivered. The film is far from a ‘summer holidays romance against the odds’ type narrative and encompasses many different themes including domestic abuse and mental health. Though at points difficult to watch, this British drama is rather hypnotic and hard to take your eyes off of. 7.5/10.
